A former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Victoria Nyeche has called on the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking Persons (NAPTIP) to take proactive measures in curbing the menace of child trafficking in the country.

Nyeche also called on other relevant agencies to address the problems of child abuse as child abuse-related cases are getting out of hand.

Victoria Nyeche while speaking at this year’s World Day Against Child Labor, condemned the use of under aged children as domestic workers and advised parents and guidance not to give out their underaged children, wards for menial jobs as they are not expected to be bread winners for their families.

“Children are meant to be educated and cared for, it is a crime for any adult to actually make a child to cater for the family or indulge them into hard labors. We should all be crusaders and ambassadors of child labor and we should all report cases of child labor, we should not be perpetrators of child labor”

Also, another facilitator of the event on her part said ” people should stop taking other people’s children, claiming they want to train them, meanwhile they bring them into the cities just to exploit them by giving them items to go and hawk and these children will be outside until late hours.

” We are saying that it is not good. It is so inhuman and we want to use this medium to say anybody that is doing such should stop it. If you know you cannot take care of another person’s child, leave the child for the mother or the father let them take care of their responsibility.

“It’s really a pity for the children that are going through all of this, including the rape that we are talking about”

This years World’s Day Against Child Labor, is focused mainly on the danger of child labor which includes rape, denial and access to education and among others.
