The Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) Worldwide, has called for the immediate sack of the project coordinator of Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, HYREP, Dr Marvin Dekil.

The follows the Federal Government’s plan to re-assess HYREP as announced by the Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohammad Mahmood on Friday.

Mahmood said the plans to re-assess and re-energize the project is to enable critical changes that will accelerate the space of work.

The minister expressed displeasure at the slow pace of work done so far and reiterated the need for a review, reassessment and critical changes.

But in a swift reaction, the president-General of OYF, Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana thanked President Mohammadu Buhari for heeding to the cry of the Ogoni people.

He told Theportcitynews that the statement by the minister of environment lends credence to the assertion by his group and other well- meaning Ogonis who have lamented the poor method of handling the project by the Project Coordinator, Dr. Marvin Dekil.

He noted that such directive at the behest of the President is timely and a patent demonstration of his avowed commitment and sincerity to clean-up Ogoniland

Recall that the Ogoni youths under the aegis of Ogoni Youth Federation had written to the Federal government, United State of America and United Kingdom, Secretary General of United Nations, African Union seeking their intervention in the compromised clean up of polluted Ogoni environment.

Comrade Yamaabana, called for the immediate sack of Dr. Marvin Dekil , who he said has failed woefully to carry out the mandate bestowed on him, stating that a gigantic project such as HYREP which requires optimal efficiency and competent hands cannot be sacrificed on the altar of ethnic sentiment.

He however appealed to president Buhari to reconsider the appointment of a competent Ogoni son with capacity for better environmtal management and good rapour with the local communities.
