Coronavirus cases in UK soars to 456

The number of UK coronavirus cases has soared to 456 after 83 people tested positive for the killer virus in 24 hours, officials have announced.

It’s the biggest increase in a single day recorded so far, up from 373 at the same point yesterday at 9 am.

It comes as chancellor Rishi Sunak on Wednesday unveiled a massive £30billion plan to stop coronavirus plunging Britain into Italy-style chaos.

Delivering his crucial first Budget, the Chancellor admitted that people were ‘worried’ about the disease, but insisted the government will do ‘everything it can’ to keep the country ‘healthy and financially secure’.

Chief doctors said yesterday the peak of coronavirus in the UK is expected within the next two weeks, with thousands more expected to be infected.

Scientists say the situation in the UK is quickly following the same trajectory as Italy’s, where thousands of furious Brits have been left stranded due to flight cancellations.

The infection is now transmitting between humans in nearly 30 countries across Europe, with Spain and Italy the worse effect.
