Iyaye retains sports, Gogo-Jaja moved to water resources

The Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has re-appointed Boma Iyaye as the Commissioner for Sports.

Governor Nyesom Wike assigned the portfolio to Boma Iyaye during the State Executive Council on Wednesday.

Boma Iyaye had served as Sports Commissioner during the first term of Governor Nyesom Wike.

Iyaye was among the nine new commissioners that took their oath of office at the Government House Port Harcourt.

The Governor also deployed the National President of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, Honour Sirawoo to the Ministry of Sports.

Honour Sirawoo was recently appointed a Permanent Secretary and was sworn-in on Tuesday by the Governor.

Governor Wike while swearing-in the newly appointed commissioners tasked them to desist from ethnic politics.

He asked them to focus on their jobs for the development of the State.

The new Commissioners and their portfolios are:

1.Barr Eloka Taise-Amadi (Chieftaincy and Community Affairs)

2.Hon Boma Iyaye (Sports)

3.Hon Diamete Herbert-Miller (Ministry of Power)

  1. Tonye Oniyinde (Culture and Tourism)

5 Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja (Water Resources)

  1. Dr Igbiks Tamuno (Ministry of Environment)

  2. Hon Emeka Onowu (Special Duties, Governor’s Office)

  3. Professor Chike Princewill (Ministry of Health)

  4. Mr Ohia Prince (Ministry of Youth Development)

Also, the Rivers State Executive Council has constituted a committee for the hosting of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) World Executive Committee Meeting and the AIPs Africa meeting billed for Port Harcourt in October 2020.

The Committee will be headed by National President of Sports Writers Association SWAN and the Permanent Secretary Rivers State Minister of Sports, Honour Sirawoo.

The committee will be inaugurated by Governor Wike on Friday, 6th March 2020 by 11 am at the Government House Port Harcourt.
