NSCDC hampers on first aid, disaster management

As the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps Rivers State Command, commemorates it’s 2020 World Civil Defence Day Celebration with the theme: “Civil Defence and A First Aider in Every Home”, the public has been urged to get first aid boxes in their homes.

The State Commandant, Muktar Lawal, who stated this while marking the occasion, said the command has a team of personnel trained and equipped on disaster management, adding that the team has been training people on how to administer first aid on victims both at home and in the field of operation.

According to him, the aim of the disaster management training is to contribute to the development of Civil Defence to the international organisation which is known for responding to emergency situation Worldwide.

“Base on the technological development and urbanization, the rapid changes that have been introduced in the lifestyle, the Command has introduced first aid and emergency doctrine, which is to contribute to life-saving assistance.

“People who are working in the emergency are expected to keep up with the pace of development. The essence of first aid is considered as the first action. First aid actually begins with calling out for help before the arrival of competent bodies or authorities.

“The Agro Rangers Team, Medical/Disaster management team, has been organising and intensifying awareness on first aid in every home, which is aimed at rendering services and safeguard of lives and property.

He, however, reiterated that the command will continue to carry out its awareness campaign on first aid and disaster management training to the general public.

Our correspondent gathered that the event which was in conjunction with the Red Cross Society featured several displays
of disaster safety tips.
