Retired army Major, Festus Welewa has narrated his ordeal, when an alleged gang of kidnappers abducted him in Omoukiri community of Allu in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The ex-senior army officer told our correspondent that he spent nine days in the kidnappers’ den, adding that his abduction was masterminded by the paramount ruler of the community, Alhaji Hassan Welewa.

His words: “Since I retired from military service and returned to my home town, there has been a terrible gang up led by Alhaji Hassan Welewa against me.

“These people are cultists and kidnappers. They steal and do all manner of criminal things.

Since my presence is deterring them from committing more crimes, they have attempted severally to kill me.

“They kidnapped me. Kept me some where to the extent that the military could not find me for nine days.

“The next thing was to connive with the police and accused me of armed robbery and concocted all manner of things against me to incriminate me.

“Since then, I have been receiving text messages from these criminal elements, threatening me and my family.

“Every evening, what they do now is to come to my gate and be firing gunshots and the bullets of these guns will be falling on my roof.

“They didn’t end there, on three occasions, these criminals had seriously chased me on my way back from court.

“The last time, they chased me up to Garrison, Aba Road before I narrowly escaped from them.

” My life is in danger.”
