A magistrate court in Port Harcourt has at last docked and remanded one Emmanuel Worga in prison custody after the paramount ruler of Omoukiri community of Allu in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State, Alhaji Hassan Kinika Welewa and Prince Nduka Worlu jumped court bail.

The embattled monarch and seven others at large making a total of nine defendants are standing trial for attempting to kill a retired senior officer of the Nigerian Army, Major Festus Welewa who hails from the community too.

Other defendants not mentioned above are: Alex Worga, Bobo Worlu, Akanhaa Worga, Worowhuo Ahanonu, Chinwendu Worga and Adamu Welewa.

The defendants in charge number: PMC/312c/2020 were also accused of siphoning N500milllon belonging to the community, kidnapping and summoning the retired Army Major to a prohibited Amadioha Juju shrime.

The six count charges as contained in the case which the court later adjourned till March 5,2020 came as a result of a 3-paged petition signed by Hallowed Chambers to the Inspector General of Police against the defendants on behalf of the ex-military officer.

The petition was quoted as saying, “that our client who is a retired Major had over a long time now been threatened with death by some of his clan and family members (the defendants) because he took them to court in respect of their unauthorized selling, leasing and letting of their jointly owned family lands.

“In suit number IHC/103/2009 and IHC/104/2009 which our client instituted against the defendants had been determined in favour of our client against them.

“To that extent, the high court had directed them to render account of the family property and funds they have misappropriated but they have flagrantly disobeyed and disregarded the court orders.

“Our client had continuously been threatened to either withdraw the suit he won against Alhaji Hassan Welewa or risk being killed with his property destroyed including that of all his supporters.

“Our client and household hardly sleep in their home in Omoukiri community in Aluu as a result of the sporadic gun shots on daily basis towards the compound of our client and his supporters by some bad boys working for the defendants.

“Sir, as a result of this ugly development, we therefore appeal to you as a matter of great urgency to apprehend the said defendants.”
