Court convicts notorious Mile One flyover robber

A notorious robber within the flyover axis of Mile One, Diobu in Port Harcourt has been sentenced to three years in prison by a magistrate court in Port Harcourt.

The convict, Uwem Asquo ‘m’ of 22 yrs old was identified as a notorious robbery gang member who specialised in snatching money and other valuable items from law abiding citizens around Mile One flyover.

Luck ran out of him when he pleaded guilty to a one count charge of stealing upon his arraignment in court and has now been sentenced to prison.

Speaking more on Asquo’s robbery activities, the prosecutor of the case, Inspector Aaron Nsirim told our correspondent that: “He (Asquo) was arraigned before this court on a one count-charge of stealing.

“The complaint against him was that Uwem was arrested on January 21, 2020 at about 12noon along Port Harcourt Aba express road for stealing.

“He was identified to be one of the syndicates that has been robbing law abiding citizens within the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt.

“He snatched a phone and collected the sum of N800 from his victim and was brought to court.

“During investigation into the matter, it was revealed that the convict had sometime in December, 2019 been arrested for robbing the sum of N540, 000 and a laptop.

“He also snatched a bag from a lady with earrings. He was to be charged to court but the complainant declined to prosecute the matter since her items had been recovered.

“The criminal was released by the police with warning to go home and maintain peace, but in less than one month, he was re-arrested for another stealing.

“This time, he pleaded guilty on a one-count charge of stealing and was convicted accordingly with three years imprisonment which will run concurrently.

“The money he stole from his victim was recovered and was tendered as exhibits.”
