Rivers workers rejoice as government begins payment of N30,000 minimum wage

Rivers State civil servants have expressed joy as the Rivers State Government has commenced the implementation of the #30,000 New Minimum Wage.

Some civil servants who spoke to theportcitynews said based on the salaries paid for January, the government has implemented the approved new minimum wage.

They said the implementation which is done batch by batch cuts across all levels of the civil service.

The Rivers state government on 16 January announced the approval of the payment of the new minimum wage of N30,000 for employees of the Rivers State Public Service with the consequential salary adjustments as approved by the Federal Government.

The Rivers state Commissioner for information and communications, Mr Paulinus Nsirim, in a statement, said payment of the new minimum wage was effective immediately.

Rivers state becomes the sixth state in Nigeria to implement the 30,000 minimum wage for their workers.

The other states include; Lagos state, Kaduna state, Jigawa state, Adamawa and Kebbi state.
