As factions continue to soar unabated within the leadership ranks of MOSOP and KAGOTE in Ogoni ethnic nationality, the National Youth Council of Ogoni People (NYCOP) has resolved to put an end to factions.

The National President of NYCOP, Dr Young Nkpah in a chat with our correspondent, condemned the spate of factions within the two apex social-political organisations in Ogoniland, describing the trend as worrisome.

Dr Nkpah said NYCOP would start with a meditative approach through stakeholders’ consultations, adding that his group would adopt the open measure technique if mediation fails.

He said: “To be frank with you, the National Youth Council of Ogoni People has decided to form a committee that will use all its meditative skills to persuade stakeholders of Ogoni.

“Because these factions are giving a very wrong signal at the expense of the Ogoni nation.

“Most especially, is this recent one by KAGOTE, after the commissionership appointment of Dr Peter Medee, factions have emerged in the leadership.

“From all indications, it seems we are divided along party lines. And at this point, we don’t need to divide ourselves because such is unhealthy.

“So, NYCOP has resolved to consult the elders behind the scene to see how we can settle this issue internally.

“We will first apply our internal mechanism to end the factions. If it doesn’t work, then we will now take other open measures.”
