Dwellers describe Ahoada roads as death traps, lament government neglect

The people of Jointkrama communities in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State have described the roads in their area as death traps.

The people of the area said the accidents and human casualties occasioned by the bad roads have become unbearable.

The Secretary to the Paramount Ruler of Isua Jointkrama 2, Mr Wisdom Santos Owolo told our correspondent that the roads got deteriorated due to the perennial flooding in the area.

He said all efforts to draw the attention of serving politicians in the area to fix the roads have never been successful, adding that the political class had deliberately neglected them.

“Our roads in Jointkrama communities in Ahoada West LGA are now death traps as a result of the perennial flooding in my area.

“A lot of accidents have been happening on the roads as I speak to you.

“Just two days ago, an incoming vehicle had an accident because of the bad state of the roads and some persons sustained various degrees of casualties.

“Regarding the state lawmaker representing us, Hon Nwanaka Okpokiri, we have approached him and other government officials in our LGA to come and fix the roads for us, yet no response from them.

“Even our LGA chairman, Hon Hope Ikiriko has been coming to our communities and has seen the bad roads but refused to act.

“We are passionately calling on government and spirited individuals and groups to come and help us fix these roads in my area because the roads will cause more casualties to my people,” the secretary said
