Rivers State Cricket League kicks-off in Port Harcourt

Rivers State Selected side defeated Rivers Veterans by 7 wickets in a ceremonial match to kick-start the 2019/2020 Rivers State Cricket League.

The ceremonial match was put together by the Rivers State Cricket Association the organizers of the league to showcase the skills of the veterans who have represented the State and the Country over the years.

Five teams will be taking part in this year’s league competition which marks the seventh edition of the Cricket League.

The teams are Panthers Cricket Club, Whales Cricket Club, Benvic Cricket Club, K-11 and Uniport Cricket Team.

The representative of the sponsors of the Cricket League Flex360 TOLA ADESHOKO said they decided to sponsor the league because of the rapid growth of the sport in Rivers State.

TOLA ADESHOKO said the management of the firm adopted the game of cricket because it provides entertainment for players and spectators.

”We saw that we need to do a Corporate Social Responsibility CSR on a game and we chose cricket because we saw growth in the sports and want to be part of it. So that was why we chose to partner with another company which is Shibah Spring Event to sponsor the Cricket League for 2019”.
The Captain of the Panthers Cricket Team CYRIL DJEBA said the league will help the association to continue its drive for the development of cricket in Rivers State.

Cyril Djeba said that the game of cricket is evolving and noted that the cricket league will enable the association to drive the change.

He also commended the sponsors of the league and promised that the players will put up their best during league matches.
