By Brave Dickson

The Rivers State Ministry of Information has urged the Muslim community in Rivers State to support the Wike-led administration by marketing the state, adding that if the state prospers, all those living and doing business in the state including Muslims will benefit.

The information ministry said this on Thursday when it unveiled the new prosperity campaign of the state government tagged: “I Endorse, Our State/Our Responsibility” at a parley with the Rivers State Council for Islamic Affairs.

Speaking at the parley, the permanent secretary of the ministry, Mr Paulinus Nsirim said: “What we are trying to do as a state is that we want to take back the soul of our state.

“We want everybody living and doing business in Rivers State to place this state first. Don’t join those who want to run our state down. Our state is blessed.

“So we have come out with a campaign that we want everybody living and doing business in Rivers State to be part of. We call it ‘our state/our responsibility.’

“We want everybody to know that Rivers State belongs to you and that the prosperity of Rivers State is your prosperity.

“So, we all must collectively join hands with His Excellency to make Rivers State an investors’ haven.

“We are here as a ministry to pass a message because we have come to a point in our state when we have the right leadership.

“His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike has within the last four and half years demonstrated to the people of Rivers State that they did not make a mistake by electing him to be their governor.

“In terms of provision of infrastructure, healthcare delivery, education and other sectors of the economy, governor Wike has demonstrated patriotic leadership In the state.

“The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the National Examination Council (NECO) examination are registered free, so long as you are living in Rivers State.

“Those who have HIV sickness, today, His Excellency has also accommodated them by paying for their medication.

“You already know that there are flyovers construction going on now in Rivers State at Rumuokoro, Artillery and Garrison. Everybody knows that His Excellency is demonstrating to us that he has come here to lead us well.

“Two weeks ago, we were at Rumoulumini. His Excellency commissioned a cooking gas plant. That gas plant is to produce domestic gas which will reduce the cost of domestic gas in the state.

While assuring the state government of Muslims’ full support to market the state in good light, the State Islamic Leader and Vice President General, Rivers State Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor commended the governor for bringing a gas plant to the state.

“We want to commend the governor for bringing a cooking gas plant to the state. Apart from job creation and reduction of cooking gas price, this gas plant will help to reduce carbon monoxide air pollution in the state because nobody will look for firewood.

“Secondly, it will reduce environmental degradation. If this gas plant was built in the 70s, some of the forests we once saw would have still been there,” Alhaji Uhor said.
