Police arraign car snatchers before Port Harcourt magistrate

The Rivers State Police Command has arraigned three alleged car snatchers before a magistrate court in Port Harcourt in Charge No. PMC 1880c.

The defendants: Ekene Aguhia ‘m’ 22yrs, Kachi Ofegbu ‘m’ 25yrs and Emenike Nwulu ‘m’ 26yrs on Friday pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy and robbery levelled against them.

The defendants were alleged to have robbed a Kia Rio and Toyota Camry cars at different dates around the Rumuola axis of Port Harcourt.

They were also accused of dispossessing their victims of their phones and cash in course of robbing their cars.

The offences allegedly committed by the defendants are punishable under section 516 (a) and section 402 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.

Count one said: “That you Ekene Aguhia, Kachi Ofegbu, Emenike Nwulu and others now at large on or before May 2019 in Port Harcourt did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: Robbery and thereby committed an offence.”

Count two: “That you Ekene Aguhia, Kachi Ofegbu and others now at large on the 24th day of May 2019 at Rumuola, Port Harcourt did rob one Nelson Ejike ‘m’ of his Kia Rio car with Reg. No. KPR 71AA valued at Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N600,000) which contained one Tecno phone valued at Seven Thousand Naira (7,000) and physical cash of Five Thousand, Six Hundred Naira (N5,600) and thereby committed an offence.”

Count three: “That you Ekene Aguhia, Kachi Ofegbu and others now at large on the 26th day of May 2019 at Rumuola, GRA, Port Harcourt did rob one Ipiane Gibson of his Toyota Camry car with Reg. No.DEG 353 TD valued at Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N450,000) which contained one Fero phone valued at Five Thousand Naira (N5,000) and physical cash of Eight Thousand Six Hundred Naira (N8,600) and thereby committed an offence.”

The defendants were however granted bail by presiding Chief Magistrate, S.D Andrew-Jaja with one surety who is to pay the sum of N150,000.
