Court grants bail to persons accused of assaulting members of Taskforce on illegal street trading

The Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted bail to 36 persons arrested over alleged assault on members of the Taskforce on Illegal Street Trading and Motor parks on September 14 at the Rumuokoro axis in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The 36 persons were initially arraigned to court by the Taskforce on Illegal Street Trading and Motor parks the on Monday 16 September in Port Harcourt.

The suspects during their arraignment pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.

The Chief Magistrate M.O.Chukwu while ruling on the bail application applied by the 36 accused persons granted them bail with one surety in the like sum of 200 thousand naira.

The Magistrate also adjourned the case to 16 October 2019 for hearing.

Meanwhile, the Oyigbo Indigenous Lawyers Association says it has commenced moves to establish a branch of the Nigeria Bar Association NBA in Oyigbo.

The Coordinator of Oyigbo Indigenous Lawyers Association KINSLEY AJUZIOGU said having a branch of NBA in Oyigbo will enhance law practice in the area.

He said lawyers in the area will benefit so much when a branch of NBA is established in Oyigbo.

”There are an enormous benefit having a branch of NBA in Oyigbo local government area. It will enhance the unity among the lawyers in Oyigbo local government. It will also enhance our practice in the area. Most of us belong to a different bar in Rivers State which is not good, we ought to have our own branch. Its help a lot there are a lot of enormous benefits for lawyers to have their own branch.” he said.

You could recall that the Nigeria Bar Association NBA in Rivers State has eight branches which include, Port Harcourt, Bori, Isiokpo, Ahoada, Omoku, Okehi, Degema and Okrika.
