Niger Delta governors reject NDDC board nominees

Governors from Niger Delta states have rejected nominees into the board the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) announced by President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday approved the composition of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

The appointment, is however, subject to Senate confirmation.

The list of board members include:

The governors, rising from a meeting in Abuja on Thursday, said the appointments did not reflect governance mechanism in the region.

Seriake Dickson, the Governor Bayelsa State said the aggrieved governors would seek an audience with President Buhari to address the imbalance.

Dickson explained that their concerns became necessary following protests being staged by the people and stakeholders across the nine member states of the commission.

“We will meet with President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss the issues,” however, adding that the governors would not discuss the specifics until they meet with the President.

Other governors who attended the meeting were Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo); Godwin Obaseki (Edo); Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom); and representatives of two other states.
