Lorine Emenike

Management of the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic Bori and men of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Rivers State Police Command held an emergency meeting with students of the institution to address the worrisome state of insecurity and rape at the institution.

The SUG president of the institution recently begged the public to intervene on behalf of the students to curb the incessant robbery and rape of students especially students living at off-campus lodges.

The SUG President, JC Comr Ojenike Nathaniel; Rector Dr Oneniye-ofori Georgewill JP; and the representative of the Rivers State Anti-cultism team which was led by their commander; Mr Lawson on Thursday, met with the students at the convocation arena to dialogue and discuss on ways to tackle insecurity in the area.

The Rector in his address sympathized with the students’ community and assured them of the management’s commitment to their security, both on-campus and off-campus.

The Anti-cultism commander, Lawson, assured the students of the readiness of the command to partner with the school management and students union government to ensure adequate security in Bori and its environs.

The SUG president, however, called on the commander to deploy more men to complement the efforts of the officers on the ground. He assured the students of the Union’s resolved to defend the students’ interest at all times.

He also called for an end to harassment of students at the school gate by the Anti-cultism squad but condemned the conspicuous absence of the LGA chairman at the meeting.

The Bori police division came under attack by the student leaders who maintained that they have remained dormant and of no help to the students’ community.

The entire Union membership which stood all through the meeting in solidarity with students, expressed confidence in the outcome of the meeting, noting that students expect improvement in the coming days.

The SUG president used the medium to appreciate the public for their support.

“Our sincere appreciation to all concerned Nigerians who stood in solidarity with us at this trial moment especially that the SOS message of the Union receives the desired attention.”
