Ban on food import: Buhari is a completely out-of-touch ‘leader’ – Ezekwesili

A former minister of education, and a presidential candidate in the just concluded presidential election, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is a completely out-of-touch ‘leader’.

Tweeting on the directive by the President ordering the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to end the provision foreign exchange for importation of food into the country, the former world bank vice president said Buhari is cocooned away in the grandeur of Aso Rock where they treat him delicatessen and praise-sing to him: “Ranka dede Sir, your Agriculture Policy is working wonderfully. All farmers in Nigeria are now Billionaires & exporting to the US”

Buhari had in a statement through his special assistant on media, Garba Shehu asked the CBN no to give a cent to anybody to import food into the country.

Buhari noted that some states like Kebbi, Ogun, Lagos, Jigawa, Ebonyi and Kano had already taken advantage of the Federal Government’s policy on agriculture with huge returns in rice farming, urging more states to plug into the ongoing revolution to feed the nation.

According to him: “We have achieved food security, and for physical security, we are not doing badly,’’.

But Ezekwesili said the President has total contempt for Data, adding that “but we shall go ahead and put out here some of the Knowledge he should have had before stating this latest blunder of ‘Directing’ what should be a supposed independent CBN to “not give a cent for food import.”

She noted that the ongoing insecurity is keeping many from engaging or participating fully in cultivation.

Highlighting FEWS Net Report on Nigeria up to January 2019, she said that nothing like Food Security yet exists.
