Wike gives cars to Magistrates in Rivers State

Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State governor has issued new cars to the newly sworn-in Magistrates in the Rivers State Judiciary.

The car gift according to Wike is part of measures to improve justice delivery to the people of Rivers State and the NEW administration’s policy to promote access to justice, the independence of the judiciary as well as create the right environment for the dispensation of justice.

Governor Wike who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo on Tuesday 23 July 2019 to present the cars said, all the arms of Government should work together to develop the State.

“You know that as magistrates of the Rivers State judiciary, there are certain standards of comfort that are expected of them. I doubt if you expect them to be running around in taxis and all the rest”, he said.

“These vehicles are to ensure that as they start work, they are doing so with every necessary facility for the discharge of their responsibilities. It has been done for previous magistrates”, he said.

The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Adama Iyaye-Laminkara expressed gratitude to Governor Wike for the approval of the appointment of the new magistrates and the release of new vehicles to them.

She thanked the Governor for his commitment to the provision of financial and infrastructural support to the State Judiciary for the smooth dispensation of justice.

The Chief Judge assured the Governor that, the new magistrates would discharge their duties in line with the constitution.

On behalf of the new magistrates, Adango Comfort pledged to carry out their responsibilities judiciously and work to the expectations of the Government and the people of Rivers State.

Eleven new magistrates were recently sworn in by the Governor of Rivers State.
