6 Division Garrison Wins Warrant Officers’ Drill Competition

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army (NA) and Land Component Commander (LCC) Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe (JTF OPDS), Maj Gen Jamil Sarham has described Training at tactical level in the Nigerian Army (NA) as a critical building block of leadership for operational and strategic levels.

The GOC made the assertion during the opening ceremony of 2019 Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition at 6 division Headquarters in Port Harcourt.

The GOC who was represented by the Chief of Staff (COS), Headquarters 6 Division, Brig-Gen Olatokumbo Bello, stated that the NA places a high premium on the training of its personnel hence the release of training directives to guide the training of officers and soldiers annually.

He further disclosed that the competition would be an exhibition of leadership skills, proficiency in weapon handling, regimentation, navigation, esprit de corps and teamwork which are the components necessary to build the leadership cadre at the junior level of the NA.

He enjoined competitors to showcase a high level of seriousness while noting that there is no better time than now to demonstrate what they are capable of delivering when confronted with technical assignments.

General Sarham thanked the Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai for his untiring efforts towards all the Division’s activities.

The week-long event will feature foot-drill, skill-at-arms, physical fitness (3.2 km race), shooting competition, map-reading and obstacle crossing.

The participating formations are 2 Brigade, 16 Brigade, 63 Brigade, 6 Division Garrison and 46 Engineer Brigade.

The competition which commenced with foot drill in the aftermath of the opening ceremony, had the 6 Division Garrison taking the first position with 358.5 points representing 71.7%, second position went to 2 Brigade with a total point of 342 points representing 68.4% while 16 Brigade came third with a total points of 320.5 representing 64.1%.
