NLO: Port Harcourt side SKE suffers defeat in Abakaliki

A 49th-minute controversial goal via a header from a corner kick was given to Cynosure FC by the Centre Referee in the 2019 Nationwide Division One League game decided at Pa. Oruta Ngele Stadium in Abakaliki.

The decision to award the goal can only be best stated by the referee however, the result has almost dented the aspirations of the side to emerge winners of the group.

SKE are stuck on 10 pts, 1 behind Cofine who drew 0-0 against Papilo on Friday in Owerri.

The visitors went into the game with expectations knowing what it entails to get a decent result against their rivals. The opening stages saw Chile Wosu with a decent chance in the 5th minute which sailed wide.

Moments later, a dipping cross from a Cynosure player went over the bar.

The host was at the verge of getting the opener at the tail end of the first half but impressive saves in quick succession by Felix Emmanuel denied them on that occasion.

Both teams went into the half time break at a stalemate.

The second period was characterized by an improved performance with glittering goal-scoring opportunities been created by both sides.

The controversial moment ensued in the 49th minute when an inswinger from a corner kick was adjudged to have crossed the line to pave way for the opener for the Abakaliki outfit.

The visiting team wasn’t perturbed with the outcome as they created goal-scoring opportunities afterwards.

Defender Jumbo Alfred forced the goalkeeper into action when his ferocious effort from a set-piece was palmed out the by the goalie.

Coach Sanni Tunde threw in the duo of Ikechukwu Onuoha and Afonime Atoabasi in the 64th and 66th minutes respectively.

Both players significantly added flair to the final third for the equalizer. Afonime saw his effort blocked in the 80th minute, later, Anthony Obia was put through on goal by John but his first touch in the opponent’s box made it easier for the goalie to save.

Despite, putting in their best for an equalizer, the Port Harcourt outfit left Pa. Orunta Ngele stadium with no point as Cynosure FC coast home the maximum points.

SKE will take on Cofine FC in their final league game on 4th August 2019.
