NDDC set to distribute obstetrical kits to traditional birth attendants

The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, said it will commence the distribution of obstetrical kits to some rural communities in the Niger Delta to aid Traditional Birth Attendants, TBAs, in the region and cut down maternal mortality rate especially communities under flood attacks.

This is in line with the determination of the management of the NDDC to intervene majorly in the area of healthcare and promote healthy living in the region.

The Commission also donated ambulances and other health equipment to the Ondo State Government to help it combat the scourge of Lassa fever.

TBAs play critical roles in maternal health care delivery the world over. In fact, several expert committees of the World Health Organization, WHO, referred to maternity care in connection to trained TBAs and midwives, hence, supporting them with maternal delivery kits will enhance the vital services they render to humanity.

Some of the items to be delivered to the TBAs include Disposable towels, Drape sheets, Sterile Disposable Scapel, Exam Gloves, O. B underpads, Sterile bub syringe, Sterile umbilical clamps, receiving blankets, Disposable towels, Sterile gauze sponges, Plastic bags, Alcohol Preps and several others.
