Elections into the board of Rivers State Football Association will now hold on Tuesday 18th June 2019.

The Rivers State Football Association adopted the new date after an Extra Ordinary Congress in Port Harcourt.

The Nigeria Football Federation NFF had suspended the election after a petition signed by China Acheru and Cyril Dumwite was sent to the NFF.

The petitioners urged the NFF to disband the electoral committee instituted without the input of the Congress and reinstate the Chris Odogwu led Committee.

The Electoral Committee was instituted by Christopher Green who is the chairman of Rivers FA board.

They accused Green of sacking the electoral committee after election forms had been purchased and screening done.

However, the Congress that was attended by representatives of the 23 local government area, coaches association, players union, referees association and other stakeholders adopted the new date set aside for the elections.

The Congress also re-affirms the decision to dissolve the Christian Udogu’s led Electoral/Appeals Committees and the re-appointment of Millerye Atiyegoba and Fenarisa Allison.

The Congress also congratulated Governor Nyesom Wike on his re-election victory during the March 9 governorship election in Rivers State.

The Congress also passed a vote of confidence on the Chairman of Rivers State Football Association, Barr Chris Green and urged him to continue until a fresh election is conducted.
