Etche council boss urges stricter punishment for kidnappers, robbers

The Executive Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Obinna Anyanwu has announced that anyone caught in the act of kidnapping and armed robbery in the local government will forfeit his properties to Etche Local Government council authority.

He made this known at the extended Security interactive meeting with Traditional rulers, Community Leaders, Youths and security agencies in the council headquarters Okehi Etche, Rivers State.

The Executive Chairman who made it clear to hoodlums who are bent on putting Etche in a bad light said his administration has taken measures to make sure they clear crimes to the barest minimum.

He said he is convinced that if all hands are on deck, Etche Will be 100% crime free. He also called on traditional rulers, youths and CDCs to cooperate with the security agents.

HRM Eze Dr Samuel Amaechi who spoke on behalf of the traditional rulers expressed satisfaction on the initiative of the extended security meeting by Hon. Obinna Anyanwu.

He said that the traditional rulers are willing to cooperate with the security agents.

He also warned that any Chief or traditional ruler who goes for the release of Any criminal or kidnapper will face sanction or dethronement.

His Royal Majesty also used the medium to advise security men to stop embarking on illegal arrests, stressing that they will no longer tolerate illegal detention and arrest by the security agents.

He further adopted the call by the Executive Chairman for the forfeiture of properties of any armed robber/Kidnapper and the prosecution of any politician, traditional ruler who sponsors criminal in the LGA.

The Coordinator, National youth council of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter, Amb. Ihunwo Chijioke commended the council boss for his steps in tackling crime.

Amb. Chijioke further Frowned at some of the traditional rulers who present themselves as CLO in Government and private projects in their areas, outlining it as one of the remote causes of crisis in the communities.

The State Coordinator of United Community Development Committees Mr. John Chididiebere Onwubualili who spoke on behalf of the CDCs emphasised on using preventive mechanism in handling insecurity.

He stressed that prevention is always better than cure. He also cautioned traditional rulers on the high price in summon fees, calling for its reduction.
