Lady allegedly shot by soldiers in Rivers State dies.

Ruth Briggs, a Female unit coordinator of Youths4Wike, a Grassroots mobilisation group that championed the re-election of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo, in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area has died after allegedly being shot by soldiers.

Miss Briggs reportedly sustained bullet wounds during the 2019 gubernatorial election in the hands soldiers in the LGA.

The election which was later suspended by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over security concerns and safety of its staff was concluded 23 days after with the incumbent Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, winning his closest rival, Awara Biokpomabo of African Action Congress, AAC with a wide margin.

The AAC was supported by the All Progressives Congress, APC, who was barred from contesting in the election by the supreme court over the party’s rancorous congresses.

Theportcitynews gathered that Miss Briggs has been receiving treatment at the Rivers State Teaching Hospital where she reportedly passed on Saturday.

Loads of tribute have been pouring on her behalf on social media by friends and family.
