Breaking: Gunmen abduct 2 Shell Workers, kill escort policemen in Rivers State

Gunmen on Friday evening kidnapped two senior staff of Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC in Rivers State.

Two police officers escorting the Shell Workers were also killed.

The two senior staff were coming back from official duty in Bayelsa when they were ambushed, Shell said in a statement.

“The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) regrets to confirm the attack on its staff and government security escort at Rumuji, Rivers State, on the East/West road on Thursday, April 25, 2019 around 16:00 hours,” an SPDC spokesman said.

“We are supporting the police in their investigation of the incident. We cannot make further comments at this time.”

The incident happened along the Emohua axis of the East-West Road on Friday night.

This comes barely 24 hours after a bus driver was killed along the road while the passengers numbering over 28 were abducted.

Earlier on Tuesday, a bus belonging to the Agofure Motors was also attacked along the road while the passengers were equally abducted.

The Rivers State Police Command’s spokesperson, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the development.

Omoni said that efforts are on the way to rescue the kidnapped Shell staff.
