Army raids community in Rivers State

Personnel of the Nigerian Army, on Monday, raided Yeghe community in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Soldiers who stormed the area in hilux vans at about 6 pm, destroyed properties worth millions.

They also forced residents to take refuge in the bushes and sister communities.

The reason for the military attack was not disclosed but the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, in a statement, condemned the actions of the army in Ogoni Land.

According to MOSOP: “While we commend the various efforts leading to the return of peace in Zaakpon community in Khana LGA and Bodo in Gokana LGA, MOSOP frowns at reported military invasion of Yeghe community on Monday April 8, about 6.30pm during which there was sporadic shooting forcing the natives to desert their homes, taking refuge in surrounding bushes and sister communities.

“According to report, the residence of Chief Solomon Ndigbara was raided while vehicles and valuable properties belonging to people of the area were damaged and looted by the armed uniform men, who came in military trucks during the operation.

“MOSOP again condemns this unexplained military incursion into Ogoni communities and calls on the appropriate authorities to investigate the cause and motive behind such operation.
