A police officer has reportedly shot and killed a bus driver at the Ahoada-East axis of the East-West road over the the driver’s failure to part with 50 naira.

The slain driver identified as Odeh Stephen who worked as a driver at the Ekeki modern motor park in Yenagoa, Bayelsa was shot by the trigger-happy police officer in the early hours of Thursday after he brought passengers to Ahoada in Rivers State.

Eyewitness who spoke to Theportcitynews on phone said that the driver refused to part with 50 naira demanded by the police officer stationed along the road.

He noted that the driver’s refusal irked the police officer who shot the slain driver on the head at close range, adding that the driver died instantly.

The source added that the police team quickly deserted the area upon seeing the driver bleed to death.

However, the Rivers State Police Command said it is not aware of the killing of a driver by one of its men.

The command’s spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, however said he would get back to our correspondent when properly briefed on the matter.
