The Social Democratic Party SDP has approached a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt seeking the cancellation of the March 9th Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers State.

The Social Democratic Party SDP said they were also praying to the court to direct INEC to conduct fresh elections in Rivers State.

The party while filing their case at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt said they were surprised when INEC claimed that results of 17 Local government areas in Rivers State were ready.

The Director-General of SDP Campaign Organization in Rivers State SOMINA ELEKIMA said the party wants an outright cancellation of the process because they are suspicious of the collated results in 17 local government areas after INEC suspended the electoral process on March 10th.

SOMINA ELEKIMA said the party was shocked when they heard the claims by INEC.

He stated that they were in court to seek judicial redress over the matter.

The Director-General of SDP Campaign Organization also alleged that the INEC fact-finding committee that was set up to investigate the root cause of the violence that erupted during the governorship and the house of assembly elections in Rivers State did not invite the Social Democratic Party SDP.

He said the party is aggrieved with the omission and will also challenge that exclusion in court.

Our correspondent reports that the court adjourned the case to March 26th for hearing.
