Soldiers reportedly invade Ateke Tom’s residence, kill one

Soldiers on Thursday afternoon reportedly invaded the Okochiri Palace of the Amanyanabo of Okochiri Town, King Ateke Tom.

One person was reportedly killed during the invasion.

This comes as the army continues its coordinated assault on residents of Rivers State just two days to a crucial gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections.

There was a protest by indigenes of the neighbouring Ogu Town where the military abducted a liaison officer to the Rivers State Governor. Another youth leader was also abducted by the military in the town.

On Wednesday, the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja was also abducted with members of his family.

Reports say that they have been locked up inside the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt.

The motives for the invasion of Ateke’s House is not yet known but the state government earlier raised an alarm where it accused the minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the general officer commanding, 6 Division, Port Harcourt Maj General Jamil Sarham are plotting to arrest leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in order to sabotage the gubernatorial election.
