Foundation hosts widows in Rivers state

As it’s own way of giving back to the community, a foundation known as Purple Signet Development foundation has organised a Christmas Party for widows in Rivers state.

The event which attracted about thirty widows, held at the Amadi-Ama Multi-purpose hall close to Transmadi roundabout,Port Harcourt.

The founder of the foundation, Natalie Usein told our correspondent that it was the first time the foundation would be hosting a party for the widows in particular although the foundation usually host events similar to that every ending of the year.

“During this time of the year, most people make efforts to give to the orphanages, beggers on the streets, the physically challenged and other less privileged people in the society but hardly are the widows remembered.

Most women when they lose their husbands, they go through so much hell especially in the Nigerian society, these women face marginalization, financial difficulties, harmful cultural practices like hair scrapping and drinking water used in washing their husbands’ corpses.

So,today we decided to put smiles on their faces by organising this small party to celebrate them and also make them understand that they matter as well.” She said.

The Portcity News reports that the foundation distributed clothing and food items such as rice, cooking oil, cartoons of indomie, garri and cash to all the widows present at the party including a free makeover session and free hair-making slots to them.

On their part, the widows expressed profound gratitude to the foundation for coming to their aid in such autere economic times.

“My kids and i had no hope of how we are going to be spending this Christmas, we had no money and no food items not until the foundation called and invited me for this party, i am totally overwhelmed and emotional, May God replenish their pockets.

My mother is also a widow like me and i have been so worried on how i would buy things for her this Christmas but fortunately, Purple Signet Development Foundation has made it a possibility.” They said.
