A member of the Council of Ogoni professionals, Barr Naabulubari Naazigha-Lue, has joined in condemning the call for tenure elongation for the current President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People MOSOP Legborsi Pygbara.

Barr Naabulubari Naazigha-Lue said the move to elongate the tenure of MOSOP’s President is illegal and unconstitutional.

He said that elections into MOSOP Executive usually take place every three years and frowned at the inability of the current President of the body Legborsi Pygbara to inaugurate a steering committee that will conduct fresh elections that will usher in new leaders for the movement.

NAAZIGHA-LUE stated that the current President has served for two terms of six years and wondered why he is holding onto power.

He said: “Lately, elections are supposed to be conducted now into the executive positions of MOSOP, but of late, President Legborsi Pygbara has purportedly elongated his tenure till next year which is not only illegal, it is also criminal and unconstitutional.

“Because by the combined provisions of article five sub-three and article eleven of the MOSOP constitution, elections shall be held once every three years and the tenure of members of the executive committee of MOSOP is three years which they can be re-elected for another three years and Legborsi Pygbara has served his two tenures of six years” he said

He said that elongating the tenure of MOSOP President could cause a crisis in Ogoniland.

Naazigha-Lue who is also a contender for MOSOP Presidency appealed to Legborsi Pygbara to end his tenure through a peaceful transition.
