The Rivers State Cycling Coach Emmanuel Onusanya has called on the state government to provide the athletes with new bicycles as they prepare for the National Sports Festival in Abuja next month.

Coach Emmanuel Adesanya said the set of bicycles they are presently training with have worn out.

Adesanya also appealed to the athletes to train with the bicycle at their disposal ahead of the festival.

”To us we too have to understand, you can see how all the rickety bicycles we are using are now. We just have to train with what we have now. By God’s grace before the festival, they can bring some bicycles so that we can use this one too. Because if you don’t train with what you have, when they bring new bicycles you may not been able to perform also. So that is why I said lets train with what we have now so that if the new bicycles come, we can use them at the festival” he said.

The cycling team is one of the medal hopefuls for the state government and the coach said that good preparation will enable the athletes to win laurels for the state at the festival.

Our correspondent reports that the 19th National Sports Festival is billed for the 6th-16th of December at the National Stadium Abuja.

The 10-day sporting fiesta will feature 37 sports with ten thousand athletes from 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory participating in the event.
