I will bring change to Rivers State – SDP Guber Aspirant

Governorship aspirant on the platform of Social Democratic Party, SDP, George Larry, has said if voted as the next governor of Rivers State, he would give priority to security, human capital and infrastructural development of the state which is poorly developed, considering its enormous resources.

Larry unveiled the plan on Monday during a chat with journalists at the national secretariat of the party.

Addressing newsmen about his ambition and his quest for a new Rivers State, Larry lamented the lack of infrastructural and human capital development in the state.

He said if elected as governor, he would ensure Rivers State experiences a dramatic transformation from the ‘dungeon’ it is in presently.

“We all know that Rivers State has been a dungeon, but I have come to tell you today that change has come.

Over the years, we’ve had what I can’t explain. But under my government, River State will see a different and wonderful type of democracy that will touch all spheres of development, infrastructural development and human capital development,” Larry said.

He emphasised that River State must become one of the best states in Nigeria under the SDP led- administration when voted as the governor in the 2019 elections.

On his choice of SDP as the party to contest the governorship election, he said the party has the best interest of the people at heart.

He explained that he identified with the party to actualize all the people-oriented ideologies of the party, assuring that the SDP will take over the leadership of the state come 2019.

Earlier while welcoming him to the party, Deputy National Chairman of the SDP, Dr Abdul Isiaq noted that SDP is a disciplined party where indiscipline cannot be found.

He said the party needed aspirants of high pedigree and experiences like him to transform the state.

“SDP is a very disciplined party. You won’t find impunity. We are going to be very transparent in all our activities and follow the principles of equity, fairness and justice,” Isiaq said.

Speaking also, the Deputy National Chairman, South, Professor Tunde Adeniran described the aspirant as a man of pedigree whose philosophy aligns with the philosophies of the party.

“We are counting on you to liberate the people of River State and the nation,” he told the governorship aspirant.

On his part, the National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party(SDP), Alhaji Shehu Gabam appreciated him for finding SDP the best platform to contest.

He assured him that the party would provide a level playing field for him and other aspirants to contest the coming elections.

Gabam said the party will invest in everything to ensure all aspirants are given due diligence.

He also noted that the party would adopt the direct primary approach so “that the people can make their own choice of someone that works for them and can change their lives.”

In a remark earlier, the National Organising Secretary, Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma noted that River State which is a major state in the revenue derivation of Nigeria was still lagging behind in both human and infrastructural development due to bad leadership.

“We haven’t seen measurable infrastructural development as a result of presumed bad leadership.

“But SDP will provide the best leadership to change the entire fortune of the state,”
