Unknown gunmen kill vigilante member in Diobu

Unknown gunmen have killed a member of Diobu vigilante group at the early hours of yesterday at the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt.

Spokesman of the group, Prince Amatari said he was the target of the attack carried out by the hoodlums.

According to him, the hoodlums invaded his home with weapons to attack him but on meeting his absence,attacked other members of the vigilante group.

AMATARI confirmed that ifeanyi(Chimele Amadi), one of the victims of the attack, died while being rushed to the hospital with the assistance of the police.

“I escaped assassination this morning were some hoodlums numbering about seven invaded my compound but on realising i was not around, they left to Ojoto street where they shot a vigilante member by name George, they also went to Saint Thomas by Ikwerre road, shot another of our member(Chimele Amadi) who died in the hospital”

Mr. Amatari appealed to the Rivers state government to intervene as the functions of the vigilante group is to assist security agencies to secure lives and property in the state.

Meanwhile the Rivers state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni confirmed to our reporter Tina Stephen that only one person was killed.

“The death of one Chimele Amadi who was shot dead at the early hours of today at no 135 Ikwerre road, Port Harcourt, responding to the distress call, our men of the Diobu division swiftly moved into action to the place that was under attack by an unknown gunmen. On sensing the presence of the police, the gunmen took to flight. While they were escaping, they sighted this young man from the window and shot him. Our men got there and took him to hospital were he later died, only one death was recorded”

According to him, investigation has commenced to unravel the cause of the shooting.
