Navy to tackle insecurity in Rivers State

Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral David Adeniran, says the Nigeria Navy is poised to tackle the security challenges confronting the command in Akwa Ibom and Rivers States.

Adeniran, who is the new FOC in charge of the Eastern Naval Command, said yesterday in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom during the tour of facilities under the command of NNS Jubilee that the main challenge of the areas bordered on insecurity.
He said the inspection of the NNS Jubilee command, Uta Ewa jetty in Ikot Abasi and the naval outpost in Ikuru, Andoni and Kaa jetty both in Rivers State, showed a lot of improvement compared to the past.

“Our main purpose in this environment is the security of the area, and how we can cooperate better with other agencies. I have served in this environment before, I can say there is a lot of improvement compared with what I left. So coming back here, I have the needed experience to address those issues that I see, that I need to step in to address.

“It is customary that on assumption of office, one goes around to familiarize himself with the various units under the command and also with the issues that need to be addressed. I have gone round several units and the familiarization visit continues, so far there are a lot of things we have seen.

“The various issues at stake cannot be done alone. Everybody has to be brought on board including the media, our friends, and all other agencies, that is how we can tackle the various challenges confronting us,” he said.
