Indigenes of Umunwelile Community in Etche LGA of Rivers State has written President Muhammadu Buhari over continuous Military Siege on the community by soldiers of 6 Division of the Nigerian Army Port Harcourt.

The community has also called on the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to intervene and save the community from the constant harassment the men of the Nigerian Army is dishing out to the community.

The community in a petition to the president alleged that it was invaded by armed soldiers acting on the instructions of the Commander, Garrison Command operations, Major Nasiru on August 23.

According to them, the soldiers who were intent on perpetrating genocide on the community, shot sporadically in the air, beating, wounding, brutalizing, intimidating and traumatizing members of the community.

The community also alleged that the invading soldiers clearly informed them of their intention to forcefully take over the community’s land, adding that the leadership of the community had placed a great deal of restraint on the aggrieved youths of the community but would not continue to guarantee their cooperation if the military’s clearly invasion is not stopped.

The community, therefore, urged the president to immediately intervene and save the community from looming danger and to stem the wave of impunity that is ravaging within the community as being perpetrated by soldiers of the Division.

The community also urged the president to place a moratorium on the military’s unlawful invasion pending the determination of a suit it filed in court
