Police react to Abua/Odual killings

The Rivers State police command has confirmed that three persons and not four were killed by gunmen in a community in Abua/Odual local government of the state.

Unknown gunmen said to be suspected kidnappers, shot and killed a soldier, a policeman and another civilian during an unsuccessful bid to abduct a foreign national at an oil facility on Monday.

The victims were part of the escort of a foreign oil expert.

However, the spokesman of the state Police command, Nnamdi Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the death of three persons and not four as claimed initially.

DSP Nnamdi Omoni in an interview said that the kidnappers killed a soldier, policeman and a driver.

It was gathered that the victims were attacked at Sterling oil exploration site in Ogbemakoku/Iyak community in Abua-Odual.

A source within the local government said that the suspected kidnappers opened fire on the escort after they noticed the presence of their target, who is the foreigner working with the oil company.

Our source, Mr Iloye Bestman said the driver carrying the expatriate ran away with the Whiteman, with the intervention of community people, who stormed the area to chase away the kidnappers in the area.
