Anambra gets refund on federal roads

Following the Senate approval of 21 states, which applied for refund on execution of federal projects, Anambra State government is to get a total of N37. 95 billion refund.

Victor Umeh, the senator representing Anambra-Central Senatorial District disclosed this at the launch of ‘Senator Victor Umeh Support Group’ in Awka, the state capital.

Governor Willie Obiano had earlier put total money the state spent on the repair of federal roads and bridges at N43 billion.

Umeh said he was able to attract N500 million worth of projects to his senatorial district, which is captured in this year’s budget, adding that when the money is released, it will cover various empowerment programmes meant for members of his constituency.

He promised to deliver whatever is due his constituency at the appropriate time.

On the tribunal verdict that affirmed his election, Umeh said he never entertained any fear on the matter except that in politics, one doesn’t know who is behind the scene.

He said: “I was not worried because in law, there was nothing that would set aside the election, but in politics you don’t know who is working behind the scene”.

On the defections by politicians, Umeh confirmed that only he and Stella Oduah are the senators of All Progressives Grand Alliace (APGA) with six members in the House Representatives.

Umeh announced at the occasion that he would expand the number of beneficiaries of his scholarship scheme which he started before going to the senate by 70, bringing the number of them to 200.

Also at the occasion, Nkem Okeke, the state deputy governor, described Umeh as a performing senator who can be trusted and urged the people to back him for another term.
