Rivers APC Sets Up Peace and Reconciliation Committee.

The All Progressive Congress, APC in Rivers State has constituted a committee after an extraordinary Rivers APC stakeholders meeting, on Monday in Port Harcourt.

The mandate of the committee is to mend perceived cracks within the fold of the party in the state and to reposition it ahead of 2019 general election.

Members of the committee includes:

1. Sen Wilson Ake – Chairman.
2. Hon Barr Adokiye Oruwari.
3. Hon Elder Austine Nwakoh.
4. Hon Mrs Mary Alagoa.
5. Hon Ted Oteh

There has been fractionalization within the ranks of the party in the state, with loyalists divided between the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and the Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Magnus Abe.

Senator Abe, who is said to be nursing a gubernatorial ambition, has had verbal confrontations with the Minister who is also the leader of the party in the state, with Amaechi saying during a courtesy visit of Ikwerre traditional elders in February that he will not support Senator Abe’s ambition.

The Minister is, however, said to favour candidates from the Riverine areas as opposed to upland areas with rumours making rounds that the likes of Tonye Cole and Dakuku Peterside, the DG of NIMASA are on the Minister’s radar.
