Empower Girls, Transform the world – YEAC-Nigeria

By Tina Amanda

As the world commemorates the International Day of the Girl-Child today, with the theme “Girl’s Vision for the Future,” the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria) has called for the empowerment of girls to shape a better world.

Observed on October 11 each year, the International Day of the Girl-Child highlights the potential, strength, and resilience of girls globally. This year’s theme underscores the pivotal role of girls in building a brighter, more equitable future.

In a statement by the Executive Director of YEAC-Nigeria, Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, emphasized the urgent need to overcome barriers faced by girls, including limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, as well as societal stereotypes, violence, and discrimination.

“We live in a world where girls continue to face numerous barriers. Yet, despite these challenges, girls remain hopeful, determined, and visionary.”

He further stressed the importance of amplifying the voices of girls who are courageous and resilient.

“As we look at the future, we must prioritize girls’ education, protect them from violence and exploitation, and promote their leadership. Girls are not just the future; they are the present.”

Fyneface urged policymakers and leaders to invest in girls, create inclusive policies, and support their aspirations.

“To girls everywhere, your voice matters, your dreams count, and your future is bright. Never let anyone dull your sparkle or limit your potential.”

YEAC-Nigeria extended warm wishes to girls in Nigeria and around the world, celebrating their vision and determination on this special day.
