Nigerian Billionaire And Philanthropist Dies at 93

Alhaji Aminu Dantata, a renowned Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, passed away on Friday night in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, after a brief illness.

He was 94 years old. Born on May 19, 1931, in Kano, Dantata was a respected industrialist and key player in Nigeria’s private sector growth. He founded Express Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd and played a significant role in establishing Jaiz Bank, Nigeria’s first non-interest bank.

Dantata’s contributions extended beyond business. He was a devoted philanthropist, supporting educational initiatives, skills acquisition, and economic empowerment for youths.

His charitable foundation and personal donations aided numerous schools, mosques, health centers, orphanages, and widows. He also served as Chancellor of Al-Qalam University and Non-Executive Director of Jaiz Bank Plc.

As a member of the influential Dantata family of Kano, he was also the granduncle of Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man. He is founder of Express Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd, Director of Jaiz Bank.

Supported education, skills acquisition, economic empowerment, and community development projects

Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Non-Executive Director of Jaiz Bank Plc, member of the Northern House of Assembly, Commissioner for Planning and Development in Kano State.

His funeral details will be announced later. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and forgive his shortcomings.
