Popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Omoni Oboli, has made a bold claim about Nigeria’s film industry, stating that Nollywood produces more original content than its Hollywood counterpart.
The 47-year-old Edo-born screen icon, known for critically acclaimed works like “The First Lady”, “Wives on Strike,” and “Love in Every Word”, made the declaration during a recent industry interview. She argued that Nigerian filmmakers consistently deliver unique narratives, countering perceptions of Nollywood films being predictable.

According to her” “I feel like this part of the world, we have actually more original stories than outside of Nigeria. I dare say that Nollywood has more original stories than Hollywood”.
Oboli’s comments come as Nollywood celebrates its 30th anniversary, having grown from humble beginnings to a $6.4 billion industry producing over 2,500 films annually. Industry analysts note this growth coincides with increasing global demand for authentic African stories.
“Our movies have become so much better than they used to be. We’ve always had good stories, so stories have never really been our problem,” she said
