Bolt Drivers Seek Justice For Member Killed In Bayelsa

In their demand for justice, Bolt drivers in Yenagoa, the capital city of Bayelsa State, took to the streets on a protest against the alleged murder of one of their members, Mr. Emmanuel Eden.

Eden was reported to have been shot dead on May 29, 2025, at Samphino Junction in the Kpansia axis of Yenagoa.

In a bid to express their dismay and ensure justice for the deceased, the drivers on Friday, June 13, 2025, in their hundreds, hit the streets with placards which had inscriptions such as: ‘Stop harassing Bolt drivers”, “Bolt drivers are bread winners of a family”, “we need better security”, No to brutality and killings”, “Gov. Diri come to our aids” and others.

The protesters took off from Tombia junction and marched through the state capital.

They appealed to the state governor, Senator Douye Diri, to take necessary actions to bring justice to the deceased’s family.

Report also revealed that some members of the Nigerians Union of Journalists (NUJ) and some Civil Society groups joined the protest in solidarity.

Speaking during the protest, a certain Mr. Jolly Adomokeme told newsmen that they were on a peaceful march. Adokeme said, “Though police has been a friend, some bad eggs among them have displayed acts against civil members of the society.

“Police should do their work and stop harassing bold drivers and passengers. “The police should also stop unnecessary extortion of our passengers.”

Another Bolt driver, Goodness Okure, said, “The protesters were out to call on the Nigerian Police and the Bayelsa State Government to investigate and arrest those behind the dastardly act.

“Late Eden left behind a young family of one wife and two kids.”
