Manchester United entered the race to sign Super Eagles midfielder

According to a report from Soccernet, Manchester United, who have won the UEFA Champions League three times, are contemplating a transfer for Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi, a midfielder for Leicester City and the Super Eagles.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder has made over 300 appearances for the Foxes, netting 18 goals, providing 22 assists, and securing both the FA Cup and EFL Championship titles.

Following Leicester’s relegation to the second tier of English football, Ndidi is seeking to leave the King Power Stadium and is available this summer for a transfer fee of £9 million.

As noted by transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Manchester United is monitoring Ndidi’s situation as they aim to strengthen their midfield without incurring significant expenses. The Nigerian player offers the experience that Kobbie Mainoo lacks and the physical presence that an ageing Casemiro cannot provide.

However, they are facing stiff competition from Atletico Madrid and Everton. Both of whom are also interested in acquiring the services of the former KRC Genk midfielder.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy, a former Manchester United manager, once commended Ndidi’s performance at Old Trafford against the Reds.

“You’ve seen the game, the way he played, the way he lifted the team, on the ball, off the ball. His performance was excellent, but also his leadership.

“I thought Bouba [Soumare] and Wilf had a great partnership today on the ball but also off the ball to control the game,” the former Real Madrid striker remarked previously.

When the winter transfer window opens, Wilfred Ndidi will be 29 years old. The chance to play for a club of Manchester United’s calibre is an opportunity that should not be overlooked. As it may not arise again for him.

If the transfer materialises, he will become the second Nigerian to wear the Reds’ jersey after Odion Ighalo.

Ndidi possesses the quality to compete for any team in the Premier League. Along with the versatility to play, defence and midfield. Given his asking price, a deal for him seems like a no-brainer for Ruben Amorim’s side, and his wage demands aren’t overboard.
