CSO’s, Friends of Kidnapped Student Favour Oluwaseyi Demand Justice in Rivers

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Rivers State have called on the Nigeria Police Force to intensify efforts in securing the release and ensuring justice for Favour Oluwaseyi, a student who was allegedly kidnapped in August 2024.

The Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organizations, Enefa Georgewill, made this call during a protest held at the Rivers State Police Command Headquarters. The demonstration, which included friends and students of the kidnapped victim, marked a plea for urgent police action.

“We are calling on the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police to take immediate steps to secure the release of Favour Oluwaseyi. That is our minimum demand,” Georgewill stated.

“If CSP Alex, the investigating officer, fails to arrest the suspects, including the alleged female accomplice who lured Favour, he should be dismissed and prosecuted.”

Georgewill criticized the police for not addressing the protesting children many of whom were gathered to mark Children’s Day in solidarity with the victim. He warned that the group would return for further protests if there is no progress within two weeks.

“The police asked for more time to investigate, but after this grace period, we will have no choice but to return with even greater numbers,” he added.

The father of the victim, Mr. Ogunsinasi Oluwaseyi, who also addressed the press, expressed hope following a meeting with police officials.

“We were assured by the Deputy Commissioner of Operations that all individuals linked to the case will be held accountable,” Mr. Oluwaseyi said. “We want our daughter alive, and we will not rest until she is brought back safely.”

In an emotional plea, the victim’s sister, Anjola Blessing Oluwaseyi, also demanded justice.

“The culprit, who is my sister’s friend, used to eat and sleep in our home. It’s heartbreaking that she betrayed us like this. The security agencies must act. I need my sister back. We need Favour back alive.”

The family and civil society groups continue to press for swift action from law enforcement agencies to ensure the safe return of Favour Oluwaseyi and the prosecution of those responsible for her disappearance.
