JAMB Registrar Chokes Back Tears, Apologize for 2025 UTME Issue

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that 379,997 candidates will retake the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) from May 16, 2025 due to technical glitches that affected 157 out of 887 centers.

The Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, broke down in tears during a media briefing, apologizing for the error and assuring that the incident represents a significant setback.

The technical glitch was responsible for the general low performance of candidates in the affected centers.

1,955,069 candidates sat for the examination. 1,534,654 candidates (78.5%) scored below the 200 mark. Only 12,414 candidates (0.63%) scored 300 and above.

JAMB has ordered an immediate review of the 2025 UTME following public complaints. JAMB has engaged experts, including members from the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria and Vice Chancellor’s from various institutions, to assist in the review process.

Some results, including those of blind candidates and candidates in the JEOG category, are still being processed and will be released once finalized.

  1. There is more to this than meets the eyes. It was like a systemic and deliberate act to deny the south eastern candidates, and selected parts of Lagos, the opportunity to excel. This is made worse due to the antecedents and disposition of the JAMB registrar (Prof. Ishaq) who’s also the convener of MURIC. He is an irridentist, anti-Christian and overtly Islamic agitator with a penchant for tribal and religious extremism. If Dr. Alex Anyia of EDUCARE had not requested for the forensic evaluation of the processes of JAMB, employing the FOI bill and resorting to the courts, the so-called sytemic glitches would not have been discovered.

It is my belief that Prof. Ishaq and JAMB were caught pants-down, that’s why we are able to have this discourse today. In my informed opinion, dangerous individuals like Prof. Ishaq ought not be occupying positions of trust, in a multiethnic and multireligious enclave as Nigeria.
