UCL Semi-Final 2nd Leg: Who Goes Through?

The UCL semi-final 2nd leg promises to be a fiery encounter across different venues, following the drama witnessed in the 1st leg in London and Barcelona, respectively.

The fans, neutrals, and lovers of the clubs participating in today’s and tomorrow’s games are, as usual, excited. No one knows what result is certain, but everyone is sure of ecstasy, as the UEFA Champions League never fails to deliver blockbuster entertainment that even Oscar-winning scriptwriters would be unable to fathom.

It is a competition where the best team can be brought down to earth at a time when they appear undefeatable, just as Real Madrid learnt the hard way after meeting Arsenal. Arsenal, on the other hand, lost to a side (PSG) whom they had previously dominated in the league phase, at a time when no team had beaten them (Arsenal) at home. Then, Barcelona conceding three goals at home was never in the cards, but in the Champions League, the majority of the results are never expected by a vast number of fans, because football is not played on paper.

For the above reason, the question “Who goes through?” becomes extremely difficult to answer. Arsenal and Barcelona, who were favourites to progress at some point, are no longer favourites, since the former suffered their first defeat of the competition at home, and the latter conceded three goals at home, making the possibility of things getting worse very realistic.

Today, Italian champions Inter Milan will be hoping to replicate the same precision in front of goal as they did away at Barcelona, while France’s most dominant team of the last 15 years will take on Londoners Arsenal. Except for home advantage, which can generate the right atmosphere for teams to thrive, both games are still wide open, all thanks to UEFA’s abolition of the away goal rule.

Everyone supporter or gambler is advised to check their vitals and take their medications before the game if need be, in order to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

Kick-off is 8 p.m. Nigerian time.
