Rural Dwellers Score Ibas High on Electricity

Despite not being happy with the way and manner in which Governor Siminalayi Fubara was suspended by President Bola Tinubu, rural dwellers in Rivers State have scored Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) high on electricity supply.

Ibas took over from Fubara for an initial period of six months, following a declaration of a state of emergency, mandating the ex naval chief to restore law and order in the state.

Ibas has received full support from.both the presidency and National Assembly including the release of the state withheld funds to enable Ibas successfully run the state in the full capacity of a governor.

These days, communities across the state LGAs that usually don’t experience electricity supply have started enjoying electricity at night.

A cross section of some rural dwellers within the riverine axis of coastal LGAs in the state told our correspondent that they are very happy with Ibas for giving them electricity.

They said, “We actually don’t like the state of emergency, but that doesn’t mean if the sole administrator has done well, we shouldn’t praise him.

“Even when the Supreme Court gave financial autonomy to LGAs and we got elected LG chairmen and councillors under the administration of Fubara, we didn’t see electricity like we are enjoying now.

“If this electricity supply can continue, we will judge Ibas worthy of doing well as a sole administrator in our state. Even though we know he might be doing it to win the hearts of the Rivers people, he still deserves the credit.”

The question the free thinkers is still asking is that, has Ibas restored peace in the state that can subsist if he leaves office as sole administrator?

For the fact that no true reconciliation has been established between the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and the suspended governor, it will be shadow chasing to say that Ibas has achieved peace in the state.
