Newly installed Chief Edward Evans Dagogo, who now holds a chieftaincy title as the Alabo Edward Evans iwo Teneilabe (Da Iboroma Dukuno 1), has promised to bring in scholarships from oil multinational companies operating in his area to his people.
The newly installed chief who made this known to our correspondent shortly after his coronation, maintained that despite the pipelines of Shell, LNG and Agip oil companies in his area, it has been long his people got scholarships from the oil companies.
He said, “In our compound, we have Shell, LNG, and Agip pipelines, but within this period, we have not received any scholarship from any of these oil multinationals. It will be of great importance to see my people benefiting from such scholarships when they come
“Chief Evans also narrated how he was chosen to hold the chieftaincy title, saying that: “My grandfather, the Edward Teneilabe was one of the strong men that came from old shipping where our father, King Dokubo Asari is now the Amayanabo. In Bakana, we have different compounds, and our compound is called Iboroma.

“Our father, the Teneilabe was the Da Iboroma Dukuno 1 which means pilot 1. He piloted the Tom Fouche Iboroma Group of Houses from the old shipping to the new settlement called Bakana. So, they conferred the chieftaincy title on him but he refused it because he was a Christian.
“For the past 100 years, nobody collected the chieftaincy title and now, the family has to pick me to accept the chieftaincy title as the Edward Teneilabe Da Dukuno I of Iboroma Group of Houses.
“Though I was chosen to hold this title 24 years ago but I ran away from it because of the myth in my area that says those with chieftaincy title are quickly killed. But now that I have known my left and my right, I have no fear again. So, I accepted the chieftaincy title.
[ am not the eldest person in my family. I will say I am one of the youngest but my family chose me to take the title. That was how they fixed installation date, contributed money and conferred the title on me and everything went successfully.”
